CONFERENCE PARTICIPANTS

Each campus may send a designated number of conference participants:

Bloomington 10 Kokomo 10
Columbus 5 Northwest 12
East 10 South Bend 14
Fort Wayne 14 Southeast 14
IUPUI 18

The conference is designed and intended for all associate faculty and lecturers, and is open to any discipline area. Conference sessions will be pedagogically general so that participants can focus on their common interests and concerns, and can share their successful teaching strategies. Faculty who participate in this conference will be asked to make a commitment to promote the enhancement of teaching among associate faculty on their respective campuses. Together with members of campus FACET organizations, the campus committee for teaching and learning or campus teaching center, and the Office of Academic Affairs or Dean the Faculties, the participants of this year’s conference are expected to be active in planning specific faculty development activities aimed directly at their associate faculty colleagues. As many campuses also have faculty designated as lecturers, we invite them to be included as participants if the campus so decides. Although lecturers make up only a small proportion of faculty on each campus, they hold a unique position in the faculty structure. Some teach full time and often have responsibility for coordinating the teaching of required introductory classes. In addition, we would like to involve non-tenure track faculty on the Bloomington campus who are NOT T.A.’s or Graduate Assistants.

SELECTION of CONFERENCE PARTICIPANTS:
In selecting participants, each campus may choose to recognize outstanding associate faculty and/or provide opportunities for associate faculty who will benefit the most from attendance at the conference. It is especially important that participants be faculty who have taught for at least three years and who can provide leadership on their own campus. Each campus will determine the most appropriate method for choosing its conference participants. FACET strongly recommends that the composition of the selection process be broad-based and should included input from several levels: the vice chancellor for academic affairs or other administrators in that office; the campus teaching center or teaching and learning committee; FACET members on each campus; members of the campus adjunct faculty advisory body if there is one; deans and/or department heads, faculty members who coordinate or oversee associate faculty in the targeted disciplines, and any other appropriate groups or individuals.

DEADLINE for RECEIVING NAMES of PARTICIPANTS:
Names of participants should be forwarded by the VCAA or FACET Campus Contact to Kimberly Olivares, FACET Administrative Manager, University Library 1180 on or before September 9, 2011. To expedite this, you may e-mail names and contact information to facet@iupui.edu. The process of contacting participants and sending conference materials is much more efficient if each campus can send us their participants’ e-mail addresses and contact numbers if possible. The Chair for this conference is listed below. We welcome your comments, suggestions, and requests for additional information about the conference.
