Concurrent sessions with students attending Midwest Global Citizenship Conference sponsored by Americans for Informed Democracy and the Indiana University Conversations About Service Engagement (CASE)

  • 2 - 3:05 PM: Identify In a Globablized World: Led by Amy Herman and Ambrosia Borowski. What is ‘globalization’ really? How will globalization impact your future? Do those who live in developed countries have responsibilities to the rest of the world? You and other students in the U.S. might have ready answers, but how would your peers in other parts of the world respond? This session will challenge participants to critically consider dynamic definitions of culture in the 21 st century.

 

  • 2 - 3:05 PM: How to Organize Town Halls that Educate and Activate your Community: Led by Seth Green (AID). This is a workshop on how to organize a town hall meeting on the U.S. role in the world in your community. This workshop will enable you to bring the world home to diverse, non-expert members of the public through town hall meetings on global issues.

 

  • 3:10 - 4:15 PM: Civics 101: The Role of the University in Preparing Global Citizens:Led by IU students. An interactive session that will produce recommendations for our institutions on how they can better address the needs of the upcoming generation of global citizens.

 

  • 3:10 - 4:15 PM: Messaging 101: How to Talk Global Issues with Americans: Led by Seth Green (AID). This is a workshop on the best strategies for talking global issues with Americans using the approach of the “ U.S. in the World Guide.” The workshop is especially good for more experienced advocates for a responsible U.S. role in the world; it will introduce research-based communication advice on how you can reach out to and activate a persuadable middle of the U.S. public.
